Mount Carmel Academy hosted the world-famous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue (IPVS) of Fatima on Thursday, September 21. The statue, which is one of six blessed by the Pope, made a one-day visit to Mount Carmel as part of a two-year U.S. Tour for Peace. The six other statues are traveling in different countries around the world.
Throughout the day, Mount Carmel students visited the statue to pray the rosary and listen to the Sisters traveling with the statue discuss Fatima apparitions and the scapular. The special visit was open to the public.
On May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal with an urgent message for the whole world. Between May and October, she would appear five more times, each on the 13th of the month. She identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary and urged the children to pray the rosary daily for peace in the world and to make sacrifices for conversion of sinners. Over the course of these visits, and several preceding visits by an angel, there were five prayers that were taught to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta: The Pardon Prayer, The Angel's Prayer, The Eucharistic Prayer, The Sacrifice Prayer, and The Rosary Decade Prayer.
