Each year, over 1.3 million juniors from approximately 21,000 high schools enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, earning this distinction through outstanding performance.

To advance to Finalist status, students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and involvement in school and community activities and receive endorsements from their schools. We commend these students for their dedication and excellence.
