Biology students recreated the four main components of blood – plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets – using simple food items. Corn syrup was chosen to act as the plasma, red hots represented the red blood cells, lima beans symbolized white blood cells, and lentils were used as platelets. Students used the correct percentages of each component to show typical, healthy blood as well as blood disorders and viruses.
