43rd Carmel Challenge Cup: A Perfect Day

Saturday morning, November 22, was a perfect day for a race. It was a crisp morning with overcast skies and energetic crowds.

The much-anticipated 43rd annual Carmel Challenge Cup Race was set with Lake Pontchartrain as the backdrop, and it was indeed a winner. Entire families, along with their canines sporting race numbers and sun shades, turned out to participate. The enthusiastic runners, walkers, and spectators, ages six months to seventy-seven, enjoyed music, food, drinks, and, most of all, each other’s company and support as they crossed the finish line.

After racing, everyone enjoyed jambalaya fresh out of the kettle, along with Café Du Monde coffee and hot chocolate, and let’s not forget all the sweets and bananas.

This year’s race was a huge success, but we could not have done it without the help of our major sponsor, Peake BMW.

Other sponsors include Stacie Estopinal Stanley ’89 and donations from Deanie’s Restaurant, Zupparado’s, The Beachcorner, Café du Monde, Cane’s, Coca-Cola, River Parishes, and CD Sound. The atmosphere of the entire event truly reflected the spirit of the Carmel family. GO CUBS!
