The study of American poetry in English III provided exposure to a variety of writers, voices, influences, techniques, and styles. Perhaps more than any other genre, poetry celebrates the beauty of individual interpretation and the power of words.

Students had the opportunity to experiment with poets of interest and their styles through their own writing, compiling their work into personal collections. Many created traditional booklet-style Poetry Portfolios, while others took their creativity to a new level by incorporating unique media. This year, portfolios included fashionable closets, mailboxes full of letters, hand-painted newspapers and magazines, and even entire city skylines.

Notable American poets would certainly be proud to see these modern-day adaptations that showcase the unique voices of students today.
