Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, students in English IV AP Literature and Composition created their own literary creatures.  Working individually or in groups, they designed monsters using body parts that symbolized literary elements such as setting, plot development, and themes, while also reflecting their own traits and interests.  Each creature included at least one recycled or upcycled component, with many students repurposing items such as old toys or household objects.

Students also kept a scientist’s journal, writing a letter to their creation and reflecting on Catholic social teachings, including care for God’s creation and respect for human dignity. The project showed both their creativity and their connection to the novel’s themes.
