As part of a Design Cycle Experience, juniors in Precalculus Honors worked together as teams of mechanical engineers to design and build machines that incorporated rotation. The machines were required to change an angular speed from one amount to another to accomplish a purpose and have at least three rotating components. Students incorporated found objects into their projects and utilized the 3D printers in the Phyllis M. Taylor Maker Lab to create their own gears. After submitting two diagrams, each group was required to demonstrate their machine’s functionality.
