Sophomores in religion classes focus their studies on the Old Testament. To help the students better appreciate the Jewish roots of our Catholic faith, Jewish traditions are incorporated into the lessons. Mezuzah is a Jewish tradition of posting the Shema prayer. The prayer is written in Hebrew, placed inside a decorative case, and hung on the doorpost of a Jewish home.

Students were challenged to write the first verse of the Shema, "Hear, Isreal, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one," in Hebrew and create their own prayer. They also decorated a case for their prayer. The mezuzot were hung around the doors of religion classrooms, serving as daily reminders of their prayers.

And thou shall write them upon the doorposts of thy house and on thy gates. - Deuteronomy 6:9
