Mount Carmel Academy will celebrate National Arts in Education Week September 10-14 with the theme “What Lifts You” inspired by international street artist and illustrator Kelsey Montague. Montague is best known for her wing mural art and her “What Lifts You” campaign, where she invites people to take photos with her Instagram-famous wings and share what inspires them on social media.

MCA’s art students collaborated to create two large-scale sets of painted mural wings. One set of five-foot-long wings will be placed on the windows in the cafeteria. Students will write examples of what lifts them on paper feathers (in class mascot colors) and adhere them to the wings. The other set of wings, which are each eight feet long, will be displayed outside of the PAC. Students will be encouraged to take photos in front of the wings and asked to share what lifts them.

MCA students will celebrate the arts in different ways. National Art Honor Society members painted special wing pins for each faculty and staff member to wear throughout the week. STK will paint faces, WMCA will provide bubbles and a green screen for creative photos, Chorale will have a special musical performance, and teachers will share stories of how the arts have lifted them.
