Three Mount Carmel Academy students were awarded the 2021 Oscar J Tolmas Scholarship in honor of Jacques Fontan. The Kelly Gibson Foundation gives the scholarship in association with the Oscar J Tolmas Charitable Trust. Honorees were recognized on November 12, 2021, at the Swinging for Soldiers golf tournament hosted by the Kelly Gibson Foundation for Veterans.

Congratulations to seniors Tayler Mae Clark ($5,000 scholarship), Julia Cresson ($1,375 scholarship), and Brooke Whelan ($1,375 scholarship)!

To be considered, applicants must be a child or direct descendant of someone who has served in the U.S. military, have a record of volunteerism in the community, demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities, and maintain a strong grade point average throughout their high school career.

The scholarship is given annually in honor of New Orleans native Jacques Fontan, a Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan on a mission to disrupt the local Taliban and capture its leader.
