Mount Carmel Academy Student Council Earns Fourth Consecutive National Award

For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that improve the school and community, the Mount Carmel Academy student council has been recognized as a 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) for the fourth year in a row. The NASC program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

With more than 200 members, MCA’s Student Council is one of the school’s largest student organizations. Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, they elevated school spirit and enriched student life by blending beloved traditions with exciting new activities. Their leadership brought the community together through engaging events and creative service projects, including the launch of Battle of the Boards and Back to Brown Game Night, which promoted campus involvement while raising funds for local charities. Their leadership set the tone for a joyful and meaningful school year.

“Our goal from day one was to build on what past Student Council executive boards had done and make this year unforgettable,” said Student Council President Mia Peppo. “We’re so ecstatic and humbled by this recognition — it really reflects the heart we’ve put into creating fun, meaningful experiences for everyone at MCA.”

“The student council at Mount Carmel Academy just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”

A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Gold Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
