Mount Carmel Academy Student Council Earns 2026 National Gold Award

The Mount Carmel Academy Student Council has been recognized for the fifth consecutive year as a National Gold Council of Excellence for its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that strengthen both school and community. The award is presented by the National Association of Student Councils, a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

This national recognition reflects a year of thoughtful leadership and meaningful student-driven initiatives. Throughout the year, the council focused on strengthening school spirit, building community, and creating opportunities for students to connect and lead. Members demonstrated a strong commitment to collaboration, creativity, and service while continuing to grow as leaders.

“This year, I am most proud of all that the six of us were able to learn together,” said Student Council President Selin Greer. “We are especially proud of the pep rallies and picnics we had the pleasure of coordinating. We've come to the conclusion that what makes the MCA community so special is its spirit. Everyone at MCA is filled with such joy, gratitude, and grace. The six of us are extremely grateful to have served such an amazing community as 2025-2026 Student Council Officers.”

Co-Moderators Ms. Hannan, Ms. Lota, and Ms. Spruell guided the council throughout the year. Ms. Hannan said she has been impressed by the group’s creativity and resilience. “They have grown tremendously in their leadership skills and always approach every task with a fresh, excited perspective. They really think outside of the box and are always willing to tackle any challenge!”

A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Gold Council of Excellence Award. In addition to foundational requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, and a democratic election process, councils must demonstrate successful leadership development and active service to both the school and the broader community.

The 2025-2026 MCA Executive Board includes Selin Greer, president; Sophia Meguerditchian, vice president; Caroline DeRamus, secretary; Olivia Caparotta, treasurer; Avery Albert, artist chairlady; and Tiana Le, member-at-large chairlady.
