As part of Mount Carmel Academy’s Centennial in Lakeview celebration, faculty and staff came together to create Watered by Grace, Lit by Faith, a collaborative, stained glass-inspired mixed media artwork rooted in Carmelite spirituality and prayer.

The piece was created during a special Stained Glass Painting Prayer Service, where each faculty and staff member painted a single section using watercolor and salt. Together, these individual pieces were assembled into a unified work of art, reflecting the Carmelite belief that simple, faithful acts, offered with love, create great beauty.

The soft washes of watercolor and shimmering salt textures symbolize the movement of the Holy Spirit, who brings forth unexpected light when one surrenders to grace. Echoing the words of Scripture that we are many parts of one body, the finished piece stands as a visual expression of unity, vocation, and shared mission.

Rooted in a century of Carmelite tradition in Lakeview, the artwork reflects not only the school’s past but also the community that continues to carry its mission forward. Watered by Grace, Lit by Faith will be permanently displayed on the second floor of the Motherhouse as a lasting expression of faith, community, and commitment.

The prayer service and artistic concept were developed under the guidance of Mrs. Rachuba, with faculty collaborators leading the prayer experience and facilitating the painting sessions.
