Mount Carmel Academy students took the top three spots in the 2019 Annual Satchmo “What a Wonderful World” Essay Contest. Clare Chachere '20 placed first, Catherine Stiller '22 placed second, and Avery Barfield '23 placed third.
The New Orleans Jazz Celebration’s Annual “What a Wonderful World” Art/Essay/Poetry contest honors the legacy of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong through outstanding artistic work from students with the focus on the essence of Jazz music in the Crescent City.
The New Orleans Jazz Celebration is a nonprofit organization initiated by the Louisiana Music Commission in 1993 and incorporated as New Orleans Jazz Centennial Celebration, Inc. in 1994. Its mission is to preserve, promote, and perpetuate jazz, America’s original art form, through educational outreach to audiences of all ages.
