WMCA Live from the Motherhouse

For the first time in school history, WMCA, Mount Carmel Academy’s student-run news, broadcast live from the Motherhouse. The special program marked one year since students returned to class in the historic building, giving the school community a chance to celebrate this milestone together.

Throughout the week, WMCA members worked behind the scenes to bring the production to life. Segments featured a tour of the building with MCA staff members and alumnae Mrs. Buras and Mrs. Guilbault; the inspiring alumnae artwork displayed in the hallways; the story of the more than 180-year-old organ once played by one of MCA’s founding sisters; and the Class of 1955’s 70th reunion, a true celebration of the MCA bond.

WMCA moderators Mr. Naquin and Mr. Rodriguez guided students throughout the process. “We wanted to highlight what makes the Motherhouse so special, especially now that classes are back in the building,” said Mr. Rodriguez. “It was inspiring to see how they honored the history and spirit of the Motherhouse while also stepping into new territory with a live broadcast outside of the studio. I’m so proud of the work they did and grateful that the wider MCA community will get to share in it.

The live show was led by WMCA President Kada Mataya, along with officers Emma Anthaume, Genesis Zepeda, Lucy Rockvoan, Lauren Dorsey, and Elia Borden. Their teamwork provided viewers with a closer look at the Motherhouse while showcasing the creativity and talent of MCA’s student journalists.

While WMCA has filmed outside the studio before, including a 2021 Halloween special, this was their first live broadcast from the Motherhouse.
