Scholarships

The motto of the Carmelite Order comes from Elijah in the First Book of Kings, 19:10: “With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of Hosts.” This scholarship is awarded to a student who has approached her academics, spiritual life, and service to community with zeal. As a result of earning straight A’s and the highest overall composite score from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, she will receive full tuition for her five years at Mount Carmel Academy.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. One is invited to become like Mary by imitating her virtues - above all, her humility, grace, and spirit of prayer. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has excelled in all areas of her student life. As a result of earning straight A’s and the second-highest overall composite score from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, she will receive a reduction of 75% in tuition for her five years at Mount Carmel Academy.

Our Carmelite Saint Teresa of Avila said, “Let nothing disturb you, nothing frighten you. Though all things pass, God does not change. Patience wins all things. But he lacks nothing who possesses God; For God alone suffices.” This scholarship is awarded to a student who has persevered and remained dedicated to her studies and achievements. As a result of earning straight A’s and the third-highest overall composite score from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, she will receive a reduction of 50% in tuition for her five years at Mount Carmel Academy.

Our Carmelite Saint Therese of Lisieux, lovingly called ‘The Little Flower,’ said, “Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love.” This scholarship is awarded to a student who has met academic success while remaining rooted in empathy, love and kindness. As a result of earning straight A’s and the fourth-highest overall composite score from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, she will receive a reduction of 25% in tuition for her five years at Mount Carmel Academy.

Our Carmelite Saint St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein, said “Anyone who seeks truth seeks God, whether or not he realizes it. Do not accept anything as the truth if it lacks love. And do not accept anything as love which lacks truth.” This scholarship is awarded to a student who has pursued all goals with honesty and integrity for the glory of God. As a result of earning straight A’s and the fifth-highest overall composite score from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, she will receive $1000 a year towards her tuition for five years at Mount Carmel Academy.

In the early 1830s, Sister Thérèse Chevrel responded to the invitation of the Bishop of New Orleans to begin a school in South Louisiana. Two twenty-three-year-old sisters set sail from France and arrived in New Orleans aboard the Steamship Olympia on November 2, 1833. Mother Therese began the Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as it is known today. This scholarship is awarded to ten young women who have bravely ventured forward in their student life to achieve their goals. As a result of earning straight A’s and superior overall composite scores from both elementary and high school placement standardized tests, they will receive $500 a year towards their tuition for five years at Mount Carmel Academy.
