Instrumental Ensemble is MCA's orchestral group, consisting of string and woodwind players grades 8-12. Membership is open to all MCA students regardless of skill level. Simultaneous participation in Mount Carmel's instrumental private lesson program is highly encouraged. Ensemble performs at concerts, masses, and miscellaneous school functions such as Open House and Spotlight on the Arts. Repertoire is primarily focused on Baroque, Classical, and Romantic styles, with occasional Pops pieces from movie soundtracks and popular music.
Chorale is a competitive choir ensemble compromised of approximately 40 students from grades 9-12. Chorale performs at music festivals, various community events, and District and State LMEA festivals. Membership is by audition only.
Celebration is the liturgical music group of Mount Carmel Academy. Membership consists of singers and instrumentalists and is open to any student or faculty member of Mount Carmel. Auditions are held for opportunities to serve as cantors and soloists. The purpose of Celebration is to develop self-assurance and leadership qualities in its members through their experiences as leaders of the liturgical music at school-sponsored liturgies and assemblies.
Encore is a select group of 8th-12th graders who sing concert repertoire. It is the hope of the department that many younger students begin in Encore, and through their participation they may grow in skill, maturity, and ability to eventually transition to Chorale.In addition to the end-of-semester concert, Encore is invited to sing at special events such as Catholic Schools Week, Celebration in the Oaks, and other community events.
The hand bell ensemble is open to all students through an audition process. The performances include, but are limited to, Mass and the semi-annual choir concerts. The repertoire is mainly sacred music appropriate.
Music courses are designed to educate on the study and execution of musical performance while fostering a life-long love of music.
Tri-M is the National Music Honor Society. This organization is open to any student that has demonstrated musical ability, academic excellence, and character. Students may be inducted at the end of their sophomore year. This club provides an opportunity for instrumentalists to be involved with the school’s music program. They frequently provide instrumental music at choir concerts and other events throughout the year.
