Community Service

As Christians, we are called to live as Jesus lived. One important way we do this is by serving those in need. Through volunteering, students develop a strengthened sense of social responsibility, form relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, and witness first-hand the impact their efforts make in the community.

Students assist more than 100 non-profit organizations each school year, dedicating 60,000+ hours to serving others. By the time a student graduates, she will have given at least 205 hours of service. Many students perform far more the required number, and some outstanding volunteers are often rewarded with additional scholarship funds when they apply to college. Eighth graders are required to serve 25 hours a year, and freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors are required to serve 45 hours a year.

Mount Carmel Academy celebrated 25 years of volunteering for the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) in the 2021-22 school year. Over the years, more than 3,700 MCA students have dedicated approximately 29,000 hours to building homes, painting interiors and exteriors, and more.

"The impact of Mt. Carmel’s dedication cannot be measured only in homes built or volunteer hours. Both for the students and for the partner families, the students’ hard work has an impact that lasts for a lifetime. NOAHH is proud to be a long-time partner with Mt. Carmel and looks forward to many more." - New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity
