Claire Bourgeois

Class of 2018

Claire began her first year at LSU with 42 hours of college credit, placing her into second semester of her sophomore year. She has also maintained a 4.2 GPA.

“I definitely would not be where I am today without the help of all of the teachers and faculty at Mount Carmel. They constantly pushed me to succeed and were always there to help on the days that I couldn't do my best. I learned valuable study skills and testing skills that I am continuously using throughout my college career, and I will keep those skills with me while applying for graduate school and beyond. With the help of AP classes and ACT/PSAT tutoring at Mount Carmel, I was able to begin LSU with 42 hours of college credit, placing me into my second semester of sophomore year and allowing me to maintain a 4.2 GPA. I loved Mount Carmel every day I was there, and nothing can compare to the amazing faculty and friends that I met throughout my time at Mount Carmel. Go Pink Panthers!” – Claire Bourgeois

Ms. Christie Cognevich

Teacher
English IV AP, English V, and Creative Writing

Ms. Cognevich’s essay "Charlotte Smith’s Elegiac Sonnets and the Role of Silence in Sensibility Poetry” (a condensed chapter of her dissertation) was selected as the winner of the 2019 Dickens Project at LSU Essay Prize.

Part of the essay prize is serving as LSU’s graduate delegate and participant in the Dickens Universe, an intense week-long conference at the University of California at Santa Cruz in July 2019. Run by the Dickens Project, the The Universe offers a week of total immersion in the world of Victorian fiction with other scholars in the redwood forests of UCSC. The annual event focuses on a novel or other works by Dickens and other nineteenth-century authors and on many historical and cultural issues that connect to the Victorian period. This year the book is Dickens's Barnaby Rudge.

“I'm very excited my essay won, and extremely excited to be attending the conference as a representative of LSU English—and of Mount Carmel Academy!” – Ms. Cognevich
